We have had a request for a UK twin town from Hlathikhulu in Swaziland.
Swaziland is a former British Colony located between South Africa and Mozambique.
Hlathikhulu is a town af approx 10,000 inhabitants and is situated in the southern part of Swaziland, 100km from the capital of Mbabane.
The town is situated in the mountains and used to be a capital for the English Colonists who preferred the cool atmosphere there.
Hlathikhulu has all the basic community needs . It houses the Shiselweni Regional Hospital, a Hotel, a small country club, a Police Station, some government offices, a Post Office, a Telephone Exchange, Bank Agencies, small shopping centre, four High Schools and and six Elementary Schools.
Since gaining independence Swaziland has reverted to the status of a Kingdom.
Current community projects are the provision of sheltered accomodation for the elderly and orphaned and vulnerable children. There is also a tree planting programme to stop soil erosion.
This could be a good chance for your community to make a big difference in the lives of the residents of Hlathikhulu with benefits for both communities.
There is currently very good support from the British Government and the European Union for projects within Africa.
Would any community or association wishing to know more please contact this site for contact details.
Thank you.
