We pay £225 for £5m of cover.

Welcome to the boards and thank you for raising this matter.

Public Liability Insurance is something we consider vital for any twinning group to cover both their hosting acitivities and fund raising activities. The cost of such insurance has risen rapidly in recent years and is something that some councils will bear the cost of for their twinning groups, others just insist that groups obtain their own insurance.

I know of one county group who have negotiated special premiums for all their member groups.

This is something we are currently looking into and hope to at the very least suggest possible sources or some other news fairly shortly.

Hi Ken,

As promised we have been taking a look at Public Liability Insurance and the best we have found todate is ADS Insurance Brokers, who do specialise in Town Twinning Insurance and cover over 100 different groups..

The quotation I have received from them covers

1.Visiting Town Twinning Associations,

2.Member to Member Liability, covers members in the event of them injuring a co-member.

3.Money cover up to a £1000 whilst in the custody of an authorised official,

4.Food & Drink Liability for Barbeques/Cheese & Wine and other fund raising events.

The basic cost for this cover is £193.75 which includes Insurance Premium Tax and Administration Fees.

Our group at Sandy have used this service for several years now but I felt it worth checking to see if I could beat the price elsewhere before replying.

ADS also offer Travel Insurance for Groups travelling to Europe at the following rates

1. Up to 5 days duration - £11.00 per person

2. Up to 10 days duration - £13.50 per person

3. Up to 17 days duration - £16.50 per person
These premiums apply to persons between 16 to 64 years of age. Children aged 2 to 15 years are half the premium and persons aged 65 and over at double the premium.
