As a part of their “Europe for Citizens” programme 2007-2013, the Europa website have issued an interesting video comparing two different twinning groups.
The action switches between the twinning of a small town in Ireland and its equally small twin in France as they celebrate their first five years of twinning, and a town in Slovakia where 5 different central and eastern European towns are holding a conference to discuss cooperation between their respective councils and communities.
The film lasts for just over 17 minutes and can be reached at http://eacea.ec.europa.eu/citizenship/index_en.htm , then click on the video link in the bottom right hand corner of the page.
This could be an ideal film to introduce the concept of Town Twinning into our schools and could well form the basis for a lesson in community activities.
Please watch the video and leet us know if you would like us to try and find any more similar material.
