We have received an email from Tonneins in SouthWest France, looking for a UK link.

The following contains excerpts from the email:-

I live in a small town called Tonneins in the South West of France in the Department of Lot et Garonne (population 10,000 - 20,000). The town is on the river Garonne, its ancient quays now a picturesque promenade below the town. The area is famous for its fruit - apples, pears, peaches, melons, apricots, strawberries, plums and all kinds of wonderful fresh produce with a distinct regional cuisine with duck in all its forms forming a major part. One of our most famous products is Agen prunes.

In the past this was a major tobacco growing area which created strong local employment and prosperity and although some tobacco is still grown in small quantities, this mainstay of the local economy has all but disappeared with drastic economic consequences. We do have tourism but want to build links with a town of a similar size in England with a view to holding a 'Europe' day here with a town from England and our other twin town Zippola in Italy, particularly with a view to strengthening our young people's contacts with fellow Europeans of their own age, echanging ideas and perhaps sometimes places for a time. And we also want to look at ways of bringing the businesses here in touch with those in England and Italy.

If you have any interest in exploring a twinning or friendship link with Tonniens please let me know and I will pass on the contact details.
