Many people claim the old, original traditional twinning areas such as France and Germany have been over worked, yet we are still getting requests from France in particular who wish to twin with British communities.

These sort of links are very much more sustainable than many of the newer, more exotic, but distant areas.

It is important when conidering the setting up of an international link to review your own community capabilites and likelyhood of sustaining the link.

Most of the recent requests we have received are for smaller town/villages which can often be easier to maintain, and being a more intimate situation, very much more likely to stand the test of time

Our latest request is from the village of Berchères sur Vesgre, Eure et Loire, with a population of approx. 800.

Dear Alan, I am a municipal councellor for a small village in the central region of France , specifically Eure et Loire. The village has approximately 800 inhabitants and is situated about 70 km south west of Paris in a very rural area. Rouen and Chartres are both about an hour's drive away. I am British but have been living in France for 15 years and was elected on to the municipal council, which has 15 members, last March. We have no twinning partner in the UK at the moment but are very interested in finding one which would correspond more or less to the village of Berchères sur Vesgre. I have no experience really in how go about finding a partner any greatly appreciate any advice you could offer me. We have our next general meeting on the 5th of September and I would like to be able to present some initial progress in our search , even if it is only very tentative at this point.
