SCHWAZ is situated on the River Inn, 18 miles from Innsbruck. It is highly picturesque in the way of many Austrian towns. Schwaz now has a population of 13,000, but when it was an important centre for the silver mining industry it boasted 80,000. Visitors can still visit the mines, travelling 7 miles underground on a miniature train to view the original workings.

Why Largs twinned with French town
In response to Mr. Woods letter about town twinning, firstly let me reassure him that there is no junketing involved in foreign trips but each committee member who visits our agreed twin – Andernos-les- Bains in France – pays their own fares and expenses. We have raised money ourselves through two raffles and a social event for members. Grants received from North Ayrshire Council are properly accounted for to that body and we have audited accounts.
